Crestor Litigation

Crestor is a product of AstraZeneca and was approved by the FDA in August of 2003 and introduced to the market as a cholesterol-lowering drug, widely referred to as “statins”. Clinical research and reviews involving more than 10,000 patients at that time had already lead to the belief that Crestor was directly responsible for the increasing risk of myopathy/rhabdomyolysis in people of advanced age.

What is rosuvasatin?

Rosovasatin is the generic name for the brand named Crestor. Rosavasatin has been known to cause muscle problems, resulting in permanent injury. The FDA has adopted rosovasatin into the pregnancy category X, as the medication could be linked to cause birth defects in unborn babies. Rosovasatin is an HMG CoA reductase inhibitor, which blocks the cholesterol production in the body. There are several types of cholesterol in the human body and rosovasatin is known to reduce to amounts of LDL cholesterol, one of the worst types of cholesterol, as well as total cholesterol, triglycerides and apolopoprotein B. Rosovasatin increases the HDL level ( a good cholesterol) in our body, which is essentlial in reducing the chance of atherosclerosis. At the same time, however, it is exactly that, which can lead to heart attack, stroke and periperal vascular disease.
